Included in this servicing update and/or holiday gift: fixes for a number of annoying bugs!

Note

This update began rolling out to the Release Preview channel (and all higher channels) on 2025-12-17.
If all goes well, it will be released to GA shortly after.

Bug Fixes

• When Terminal encounters a GPU or driver issue, it will attempt to fall back to software rendering before giving up and asking you to intervene (When the renderer fails, try to fall back to D2D + WARP #19636)
• DECRQCRA was erroneously disabled for everyone even if you turned it on; no longer! (Enable DECRQCRA at compile time for all Terminal builds #19606)
• Terminal can once again target the correct virtual desktop when creating a new window (Allow creating new windows on another virtual desktop #19458)
• The schema for settings.json has been updated to include answerbackMessage, ...forceVT, rendering.graphicsAPI=automatic and to deprecate some removed settings (Minor fixes to the settings schema #19387) (thanks @ralish!)
• Themes specifying an unfocusedBackground will no longer override the tab's active color (Fix unfocusedBackground being used as active tab color #19424)
• We will no longer hide your mouse cursor when you press a modifier (Ctrl, Alt, Shift...) alone over a Terminal window (Fix cursor being hidden when pressing modifier keys #19473) (thanks @angesie!)
• We've fixed some issues in the French, Korean, Chinese (Traditional) and Japanese localizations of Terminal (Localization Updates - fix ja-jp and fr-fr loc bugs - 12/04/2025 00:46:52 #19616) (Localization Updates - ko-KR - fix "aliasing" #19532) (Localization Updates - main - 10/15/2025 02:48:19 #19451) (thanks @hms5232, @monax-owo, and @loic-joly-sonarsource!)
• We've once again restored the localizations in the Copy, Cut and Paste menu (Make sure UIHelpers' resources are included in the final PRI file #19461)
• wpf: using the WPF control in an application with other IME integration will no longer cause a crash (Fix a WPF<>TSF crash by avoiding TF_TMAE_CONSOLE #19584)
• conhost will no longer crash when run in windowed mode as SYSTEM (Gracefully handle unavailable TSF from SYSTEM account #19635) (thanks @SEt-t!)
